Brazilian hip-hop matured in 1997 with the release of Racionais MC’s’ Sobrevivendo No Inferno. This collection covers rap nacional’s early years, featuring funk-forward, bass-heavy tracks from the personal collection of Gary Sullivan (Bodega Pop). The vibes range from party hearty to urban slice-of-life to conscious and political, and while heavily indebted to the genre’s US origins, unmistakably Brazilian.
